Core has launched the Microsoft Surface Pro for Business and Surface Laptop for Business in South Africa. These devices mark a new generation of AI-powered PCs, available from September 8, 2026.
Powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 3 and Snapdragon processors, the devices feature dedicated neural processing units (NPUs) to handle AI tasks locally. This design aims to enhance responsiveness and power efficiency while freeing up CPU resources.
AI Integration in Surface Devices
The new Surface lineup includes an NPU alongside the CPU and GPU, enabling on-device AI processing. This allows for features like AI-powered writing assistance, live captions, and real-time translation without relying solely on cloud computing.
A hybrid AI model is employed, balancing local processing with cloud-based intelligence. Some features require an internet connection, compatible hardware, or a Microsoft 365 subscription. Availability varies by device configuration and region.
Performance and Design
The 13-inch Surface Pro for Business offers a 2-in-1 design, optimized for touch, digital ink, and voice interactions. The Surface Laptop for Business, available in 13.8-inch and 15-inch models, features a 3:2 display ratio and precision haptic feedback.
Battery life is a highlight, with Microsoft reporting up to 23 hours for the Surface Laptop and 17 hours for the Surface Pro based on local video playback tests. Actual performance may vary depending on usage patterns and network conditions.
Security and Sustainability
All Surface for Business devices ship as Secured-core PCs, offering protection across hardware, firmware, and Windows 11 Pro. Management is facilitated through Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, and the Surface Management Portal.
Certain Surface Laptop configurations include an integrated privacy screen to protect sensitive information in public environments. The devices also incorporate 100% recycled aluminium alloy and are Energy Star certified, exceeding efficiency requirements by at least 45%.
