Honor 600S Review: AI Video Features on a Budget

HONOR has introduced the 600S in the Philippines as its most affordable device to feature AI Image to Video capabilities, aiming to deliver premium AI features on a budget. The 600S positions itself as a midrange option for creatives, though it relies on a Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 processor that feels smoother than rivals like the Dimensity 6400 during gaming. While the phone has a base HD+ display and loses eSIM support, it offers 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, a configuration that reflects current market pricing for memory components.

Design and Build

The 600S shares a design language with the X8d but features a refined camera module with two separate rings for the main lens and LED flash. The review unit comes in Misty Purple, a light purple shade, and retains the flat frame sides found on the sibling device. A one-tap AI button sits on the left flank, accompanied by a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The device meets durability standards with a 2.5-meter drop resistance rating and an IP69K rating. Stereo speakers are present, but the inclusion of an eSIM is missing from this variant.

On the display front, the phone includes a 6.87-inch 120Hz TFT panel with a punch-hole camera for a 5-megapixel selfie shooter. The screen offers decent color accuracy and a usable peak brightness range, yet the HD+ resolution and thick bottom bezel are the unit’s weakest points. HONOR chose a TFT panel over AMOLED, likely to maintain fair pricing for RAM and storage given recent increases in component costs.

Capture Capabilities

Photography on the 600S relies on a 50-megapixel main sensor paired with an auxiliary camera. The main shooter performs well in good lighting and produces acceptable results with 2x digital zoom. Low-light performance is mixed, requiring Night Mode to achieve the best results. Video recording is capped at Full HD resolution, though the 2x zoom remains usable under adequate lighting conditions.

Performance and Battery

Internal hardware consists of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 processor, paired with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Testing showed the processor handles casual tasks like social media browsing and email checking with general smoothness. During gameplay, specifically Genshin Impact, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 felt more fluid than the competing Dimensity 6400 chipset.

Battery life is a strong point of the 600S. The 8100mAh cell delivers over 31 hours of endurance in PCMark tests, translating to approximately three days of real-world use. Charging is supported at 45W wired speeds, allowing for quick top-ups when the device does run low.

AI Features and Pricing

Out of the box, the 600S runs MagicOS 10, which includes a suite of AI tools. The standout feature is AI Image to Video, which offers 23 presets. Users can generate clips ranging from 3 to 5 seconds based on their photos and prompts, though a stable internet connection is required. The process takes about three minutes to complete. However, there is a daily limit of five generations, with subsequent prompts costing approximately Php 45 each.

The device is priced at Php 19,999 in the Philippines. While the camera setup and display could be more capable, the software package—particularly the AI tools and editing suite—makes the 600S a compelling choice for users seeking budget-friendly creation tools. The phone balances necessary compromises with features that support content creation directly on the device.
